the Askios website

Those of us with childhood wounds have many shadows that follow us into adulthood and prevent us from reaching our full potential. Askios (a Greek word meaning "shadowless") is a place I hope to find within myself, and a place I hope to share with every other survivor of childhood trauma, with the wounded child in all of us. Through Askios, I hope to build a safe, supportive environment that frees us from our sense of isolation, enables us to develop coping skills, share our pain and our strengths, and move forward from the childhood experiences that have held us hostage so long.

Dear survivors, activists, healers and friends,

The Askios website is a FREE portal to Internet resources on Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse. You'll also find pages with general information on Child Sexual Abuse.

You might like to start by visiting the introductory pages that each cater to the specific needs of certain groups of people. These are:

FOR ACTIVISTS (e.g. NGOs, social workers, and professionals from government, legal, media or other related fields)

FOR HEALERS (e.g. doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, therapists)

FOR FRIENDS (friends of survivors, and supportive family members including spouses, parents, or siblings)

and of course, FOR SURVIVORS.

The Contents page has details of what's on each page, if you're looking for a specific topic. So welcome to my buffet of resources - pick up your plate and help yourself!

Take care and stay strong,

Nazu.

P.S. As of July 31st 2009, I will no longer be able to update the website. So I have created four new blogs where I will continue to post updated information about various aspects of the CSA issue. To learn more about them, visit the page titled 'The Askios Blogs'.

It began as a personal website to share my learnings about healing from child abuse. I started that website, Circle of Friends, on 28 April 2001, while still in Bahrain.

After moving to India, I developed and launched the Askios website on Friday, 13th June 2003, at http://askios-ivil.tripod.com

3404 people visited the website between then and 19 November 2007 (World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse) when I shifted the site to a new URL and remodelled its look and format.

As of November 2009, I won't be able to update the website any further, but it will remain up on the internet for - well, I hope for as long as the internet remains up! I hope the website will continue to offer hope and healing to whoever needs it, for many years to come.
