Suicidal Thoughts

Sometimes we manage. And then there are times when all our strengths seem to crumble. Some survivors, when they first start dealing with their abuse issues, go through an initial "emergency stage" or "breakthrough crisis". Some survivors go through crises from time to time without realising the connection to their childhood issues. And some of us, even after years of healing work, still fall prey to anxiety attacks or other crises from time to time. Learning how to forestall or prepare for such crises really helps.

Flashbacks

A flashback is a memory relived as though it were actually happening again. A flashback may be seen, heard, tasted, smelt or felt. War veterans, torture or concentration camp survivors, people who have been through major disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis or terrorist attacks - often experience flashbacks. So do adult survivors of childhood abuse.

In a way, our trauma is harder to deal with, because in all the other cases, the individual had the acknowledgement from others around them, that what was happening to them was wrong. We faced our childhood trauma often alone, with no one to realise or empathise with what we were going through.
